Secrets of the Brain: Neuroscience and Psychology for a Better Life
Our first seminar was December 1st, 2023 in Jacobs Science Building at the University of Kentucky (UK).
We had over 70 attendees from all backgrounds: undergraduates in the UK College of Arts and Sciences, employees of UK, and biomedical engineering PhD candidates. Our two speakers for the evening were Dr. Thomas Zentall and Dr. Lauren Whitehurst, both from the Department of Psychology. Dr. Zentall is a leading comparative psychologist, who studies animal cognition, with hopes of understanding complex human behaviors like gambling and addiction. Dr. Whitehurst is a psychologist and cognitive neuroscientist who studies stress-sleep interactions, health equity, and memory.
Dr. Thomas Zentall spoke on "Comparative Cognition: Suboptimal Gambling Behavior in Pigeons."
Dr. Lauren Whitehurst spoke on "Physiological and psychosocial correlates of ‘good sleep’: Implications for cognition, health, and aging."
